1. What handles and blades does the CASSETTE 3in1 accommodate?

All commonly used handles:  #3, #3L, #4, #4L, #5, #6, #7, #9, Baron & Lawton Long Handle.
All commonly used blades: #6, #9, #10, #10A, #11, #12, #13, etc. up to and including #25A, #27 and #36.
The CASSETTE 3in1 CANNOT be used with Beaver handles, safety scalpels or disposable plastic handles. ^Top
 

2. Does the CASSETTE 3in1 have FDA clearance?

Yes, the CASSETTE 3in1 has been listed with the FDA as a Class I exempt medical device. ^Top
 

3. Is it safe if I use 2 hands?

The process of activation, i.e. pushing the loaded scalpel into the cartridge, should always be SINGLE handed. There is no need to hold onto the CASSETTE 3in1 during this stage.
Two hands are required only when removing the scalpel handle from the device after the blade is already secured.
When used correctly, there is minimal chance of an injury. ^Top
 

4. How many blades does each set of CASSETTE 3in1 hold?

Each set of CASSETTE 3in1 contains 3 Qlicksmart single blade remover cartridges.
Each cartridge is made to hold ONE blade each. ^Top
 

5. Why are there 3 cartridges in each CASSETTE 3in1?

There are 3 cartridges for a couple of reasons. One is that almost every procedure performed uses a minimum number of 2 blades, and the most common number used is 3. When more than 3 blades are used, extra CASSETTE 3in1's can be opened and used. This keeps cost to a minimum, and there is no limit to the number that can be used. ^Top
 

6. Can the CASSETTE 3in1 be re-used to remove more blades?

No, in keeping with the principals of universal or standard precautions, the CASSETTE 3in1's very nature was designed to be used only once. The plastic cartridges are pre-packed in the CASSETTE 3in1 and it is sterile for single-use only.
Once inside the cartridge, the scalpel blade should not be removed.
If more than 3 blades are to be removed, additional CASSETTE 3in1 should be used. ^Top
 

7. How do I dispose of Qlicksmart CASSETTE 3in1 after use?

After the count has been performed, the whole CASSETTE 3in1 set is disposed of as medical waste in a sharps container. ^Top
 

8. Why is there red printing on the cartridges?

The red printing on each cartridge is to remind the user of the direction the blade is to be placed.
If the blade is inserted in the opposite direction, the device is not activated and the blade will not be removed.  If this situation occurs, remove the loaded scalpel and use a new cartridge as the previous one will not activate. ^Top
 

9. Is the CASSETTE 3in1 latex free?

YES, it is latex free! There is no latex in CASSETTE 3in1 or any of the associated packaging materials. The entire composition of the CASSETTE 3in1 is made of borealis polypropylene (PPE). ^Top
 

10. Does it take up too much space in the sterile field?

One of the convenient points of the CASSETTE 3in1 is that it can be raised and lowered as required. It can be easily moved to the back of the mayo table and the instrument table when it is not needed.
When not being used, the pedestal can be closed and then can be laid down flat on the mayo table, taking less room than a deck of cards. As it is sterile, you can even place other instruments on top of it. ^Top
 

11. Why is there a red and yellow CASSETTE 3in1?

Sharps devices are normally designated by the colour red in the United States. The rest of the world uses the colour yellow. The Qlicksmart CASSETTE 3in1 follow these colour schemes. ^Top
