Yes, the BladeCASSETTE has been listed with the FDA as a Class I exempt medical device. ^Top

The process of activation, i.e. pushing the loaded scalpel into the cartridge, should always be SINGLE handed. There is no need to hold onto the BladeCASSETTE during this stage.

Two hands are required only when removing the scalpel handle from the device after the blade is already secured.

When used correctly, there is minimal chance of an injury. ^Top

BladeCASSETTE has been specifically designed to include three transparent cartridges.

Each cartridge is made to hold ONE blade each. ^Top

There are 3 cartridges for a couple of reasons. One is that almost every procedure performed uses a minimum number of 2 blades, and the most common number used is 3. When more than 3 blades are used, extra BladeCASSETTE's can be opened and used. This keeps cost to a minimum, and there is no limit to the number that can be used. ^Top

No, in keeping with the principals of universal or standard precautions, the BladeCASSETTE's very nature was designed to be sterile and for single-use only.

Once inside the cartridge, the scalpel blade should not be removed.

If more than 3 blades are to be removed, additional BladeCASSETTE should be used. ^Top

After the count has been performed, the whole BladeCASSETTE set is disposed of as medical waste in a sharps container. ^Top

The red printing on each cartridge is to remind the user of the direction the blade is to be placed.

If the blade is inserted in the opposite direction, the device is not activated and the blade will not be removed.  If this situation occurs, remove the loaded scalpel and use a new cartridge as the previous one will not activate. ^Top

YES, it is latex free! There is no latex in BladeCASSETTE or any of the associated packaging materials. The entire composition of the BladeCASSETTE is made of borealis polypropylene (PP). ^Top

One of the convenient points of the BladeCASSETTE is that it can be raised and lowered as required. It can be easily moved to the back of the mayo table and the instrument table when it is not needed.

When not being used, the pedestal can be closed and then can be laid down flat on the mayo table, taking less room than a deck of cards. As it is sterile, you can even place other instruments on top of it. ^Top

Sharps devices are normally designated by the colour red in the United States. The rest of the world uses the colour yellow. The BladeCASSETTE follow these colour schemes. ^Top
